SECURITY SERVICES
Woodside has joined three neighboring civic clubs (Linkwood, Westridge, and Knollwood Village) to share one dedicated security patrol service. Our four neighborhoods combined represent 1,471 homes. This collaboration allows us to pool resources, provide more service hours and ensure more consistent officer presence.
The four communities will have a single patrol that runs eight hours a day, seven days a week. A rotating schedule will be used so the patrol patterns are not predictable.
In an emergency (crime in progress, fire, medical emergency, anything that threatens someone’s safety) always call 911 first. Smith is an added layer of security for our neighborhood. It does not replace police, fire, or EMS.
For non-emergency security concerns or a patrol request, call Smith Dispatch at 713-266-6042. That covers suspicious people or vehicles, trespassing, loitering, disturbances, or a request to check on a particular spot. Remember: see something, say something.
You do not need to know whether our officer is on duty before you call. If the officer is on patrol, Smith Dispatch will pass the request along. If not, Dispatch will reach the field supervisor to determine an appropriate response.
If you’re going out of town, send your Vacation Watch request to vacawatch@smithprotective.com. Please provide two weeks notice in advance (although less can be accomodated).
SECURITY TIPS
PLEASE LOCK YOUR VEHICLES and PLEASE DO NOT KEEP ANYTHING OF VALUE in your vehicle. HPD has stated numerous times that criminals have been known to break into vehicles only to find an empty bag or a box.
CLOSE & LOCK your garages and do not keep key fobs (electronic devices like those embedded in keys/key chains for unlocking cars, garages, etc.) in your vehicles even when they are garaged.
LOCK YOUR GATES AND FENCES. If you don’t have locks please purchase and use them.
PLEASE CONSIDER MOTION CAMERAS for your property. On a recent RING video, a wandering criminal was seen walking up and down the block checking vehicles but as soon as the motion light came on – he turned around and left.
In the summertime, neighborhoods usually have a bump in crime. We have not yet experienced an increase in crime. In fact, our crime rate in Woodside has been below our usual average. We attribute that to HPD, past patrols, observant neighbors, as well as an effort in crime prevention practices. Patrols are dependent upon voluntary membership dues, so please contribute annually and support this service. See link above, “JOIN/PAY DUES”
As many of you are going on vacation – please remember to:
- Stop your mail and/or ask neighbors to pick up your mail and packages, as well as newspapers (if applicable).
- Inform your trusted nearby neighbors that you are going out of town and ask them to please keep an eye on your home.

* Fill out the Alert slip and you will then be emailed by HPD and given a “Code.” Follow the instructions in that email and enter the code and you’ll then be asked about your security concerns. Call HPD Southwest Division at 832-394-0400 for Alert Slips or any questions.
