Woodside Civic Club’s Yard of the Month for August has been awarded to Professor Howard Pollack at 3611 Durhill Street.

Professor Pollack has lived in Woodside for 36 years. He was initially drawn to this neighborhood because of its proximity to everything and especially to the University of Houston, where he teaches Music History.  He liked the style of the homes and the friendly people who lived here.  

His recent front yard redo took six months to complete.  The plants for this project were selected especially to attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

The project also included stone work artistically designed to highlight the walkway leading to a welcoming sitting area, the front porch, and a beautiful front door.  

In addition to the plants and stone work, there is a sculpture by Tim Glover, a well-known local artist and instructor at the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA).  Glover’s pieces can be found in public places throughout the city and fortunately in our neighborhood via our winner’s front yard.

If you see Professor Pollack during your next stroll down Durhill (between Latma Drive and Timberside Drive), stop and congratulate him on his beautiful yard and Woodside Yard of the Month award.
